About this plugin
Dials stands as a singular tool in the modern plugin landscape, translating the sonic signatures of mid-century broadcast and measurement equipment into a cohesive channel strip. AudioThing has faithfully captured the character of Hainbach's working studio setup: a repurposed German vacuum tube level transmitter functioning as a microphone preamplifier, paired with a precision bandpass filter originally designed for scientific applications. This combination yields a distinctive tonal palette that resists easy categorization.
The preamp section exhibits the characteristic warmth and gentle compression inherent to tube circuitry operating within its original design parameters. Rather than delivering the polished neutrality modern engineers often expect, it imparts a subtle harmonic coloration particularly evident on vocals and acoustic sources. The compressor operates transparently at moderate ratios, lending a cohesive glue without obvious dynamic reduction. The filter section provides surgical precision across the frequency spectrum, capable of both subtle sweetening and dramatic sculpting.

What distinguishes Dials from conventional channel strips is its inherent unpredictability. Feed it unconventional sources - impulses, heavily processed drums, synthesizers - and it responds with character rather than mere processing. This makes it equally valuable for straightforward mixing tasks and experimental sound design. Engineers seeking authentic vintage tonality without digital sterility will find genuine utility here. Those working in electronic music, podcast production, or avant-garde composition may discover it becoming an essential creative tool rather than merely a utility plugin. Dials occupies the rare territory where technical legitimacy meets artistic versatility.
