About this plugin
Audiority's Space Station UM282 is a meticulously modeled recreation of the Ursa Major SST-282, the landmark early-80s multi-tap delay unit that shaped countless records through its distinctive approach to generating artificial reverberation. Rather than relying on traditional plate or spring reverb mechanics, the original hardware employed a single delay line with 16 taps - eight designated for direct listening and the remainder for synthesizing spatial information. This architecture produces a characteristically lush, diffuse reverb tail with remarkable coherence across the stereo field.
The plugin preserves the hardware's core topology while adding practical digital conveniences. Users can dial in delay times up to 255 milliseconds, extendable to 2.55 seconds for those seeking longer pre-delay effects, with reverb decay times reaching 3.5 seconds. The reduced bandwidth characteristic of the original - rolling off above 7kHz and below 20Hz - imparts a naturally smooth, integrated quality that prevents artifacts common in purely algorithmic reverbs. Ducking functionality allows the reverb tail to respond intelligently to input dynamics, while dedicated Echo Sync mode locks delay timing to your session tempo.

The Space Station UM282 occupies a specific sonic territory: warmer and more organic than modern convolution algorithms, more versatile than plate reverbs alone, yet lighter on CPU than ambitious algorithmic reverbs. It excels on drums, vocals, and full mixes where you need spatial depth without sacrificing clarity. For engineers seeking that characteristic 80s sheen without relying on sample-based convolution, or for those chasing the tonal signature that made it essential studio gear, this is an authentic and sonically compelling choice.
