About this plugin
Audiority's Chorus Ensembler models the Boss CE-1, the legendary 1976 chorus/vibrato unit that established the sonic template for warm, dimensional modulation effects. The plugin accurately reproduces the characteristic BBD (bucket-brigade delay) circuitry that defined that era's chorus sound, delivering organic pitch modulation with the subtle compression artifacts that made the original compelling rather than clinical.
The interface presents essential controls: rate and depth for vibrato, intensity for chorus character, with separate pre and post-effect gain staging and mix control for blending processed signal. Tempo sync ties modulation to your session grid, eliminating guesswork. The preamp-only mode allows independent use of the CE-1's input stage, useful for subtle saturation without full effect engagement.

The significant divergence from the original appears in Audiority's stereo implementation. Where the vintage CE-1 split dry and wet signals across channels in stereo mode, this plugin offers both classic and full stereo options. Full stereo mode applies the chorus effect to both channels while maintaining spatial width through adjustable stereo spread, addressing a genuine limitation of the hardware and expanding creative possibilities for mixing and arrangement work.
The Chorus Ensembler suits producers and engineers seeking authentic vintage modulation without hardware constraints or maintenance. Its faithful simulation of BBD character makes it particularly valuable for sources requiring that warm, slightly compressed modulation - vocals, keys, guitars benefit from its organic presentation. Among digital chorus tools, its BBD emulation and stereo flexibility position it as a serious alternative to hardware workflows or less authentic digital implementations.
