About this plugin
Opacity 2 represents a thoughtfully curated approach to cinematic guitar libraries, departing from the typical sample-pack paradigm by functioning as a genuine performance instrument within Audiomodern's Soundbox engine. The collection comprises 20 complete scoring kits, each organized into four distinct layers: chords, phrases, sequences, and textures. This categorical structure enables genuine mix-and-match versatility where combinations remain musically cohesive rather than merely permutative. Each performance has been key-labeled and tempo-synced, eliminating the workflow friction common in traditional guitar libraries.
The sonic palette reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of Justin Hodges and Terre Grande, whose boutique approach emphasizes expressiveness over comprehensiveness. The library prioritizes quality over quantity, with 12 distinct performances per category ensuring meaningful variation without overwhelming choice paralysis. This restraint distinguishes Opacity 2 from bloated competitors that prioritize sample count over usability.

Technically, the Soundbox engine delivers genuine flexibility through customizable modular effects, vector control, and LFO modulation alongside MPE compatibility for modern controller workflows. The 2.2 GB footprint remains manageable while delivering 14 playable patches and six alternative versions. Critically, Soundbox operates as a free engine, reducing the total cost of ownership compared to proprietary sampler solutions.
Opacity 2 suits composers and sound designers seeking cinematic textures without resorting to sample manipulation or extensive layering. It's particularly valuable for those working across desktop and iPad ecosystems. While not a replacement for traditional guitar performance recording, it effectively bridges the gap between static loops and full virtual instrumentalists, offering professional results with minimal technical overhead.
