About this plugin
The Matrix-12 V faithfully reconstructs Oberheim's landmark 1986 synthesizer using Arturia's TAE modeling technology, delivering authentic analog character in plugin form. The original hardware was groundbreaking for combining preset architecture with genuine modular flexibility, a rare hybrid that defined its sonic identity. This digital emulation captures that duality effectively.
The plugin's foundation rests on meticulously modeled oscillators and waveforms that replicate the original's tonal warmth and stability. More significantly, the 15-filter mode architecture remains the sonic centerpiece. These filters range from transparent highpass and lowpass designs to complex multimode configurations, providing tonal flexibility from surgical to saturated without sacrificing character. Each mode exhibits authentic resonance behavior and frequency response curves that distinguish this plugin from generic filter implementations.

What truly sets Matrix-12 V apart is its modulation architecture. The original offered 20 simultaneous routing destinations; the plugin expands this to 40, providing sophisticated modulation possibilities that rival dedicated modulation utilities. With multiple LFOs, envelope generators, and control sources, complex dynamic transformations remain manageable and musical. MIDI automation integration further extends the sound design possibilities beyond what the hardware permitted.
Arturia's addition of a modern effects chain addresses a legitimate limitation of the original, though some purists may prefer the plugin in unprocessed form. For sound designers seeking organic, evolving textures with analog warmth, Matrix-12 V delivers convincingly. It suits producers working across electronic, ambient, and experimental territories who value depth over simplicity. Among software synthesizers, it remains a compelling choice for those specifically seeking the Matrix-12's distinctive voice.
