About this plugin
Arturia's Comp DIODE-609 is a meticulously modeled software emulation of the Neve 33609, the diode-bridge compressor that shaped the sound of professional recording for nearly fifty years. The original hardware remains ubiquitous across mastering chains and mix buses in elite studios, lending its characteristic warmth and musicality to countless platinum records across genres from electronic to orchestral.
This plugin faithfully reproduces the 33609's smooth, forgiving compression curve and its ability to add perceived depth without obvious gain reduction artifacts. The diode-bridge topology naturally introduces harmonic saturation that complements rather than masks source material, making it equally effective on individual tracks or full mixes. Attack and release characteristics remain true to the hardware's design, favoring musical response over clinical precision.

Arturia's version incorporates modern production amenities absent from the original hardware. Mid-side processing enables independent dynamic control of center and stereo information, useful for managing vocal width or controlling stereo bass bloat. The built-in sidechain EQ offers surgical control over frequency-dependent compression response, allowing engineers to de-emphasize problematic frequencies from triggering gain reduction.
The plugin suits mixing and mastering professionals seeking transparent yet characterful compression. Its forgiving nature accommodates imperfect gain staging, while its sonic signature remains immediately recognizable in context. For those familiar with hardware 33609s, the emulation captures the essential behavior that made the original indispensable. For producers and engineers approaching it fresh, Comp DIODE-609 delivers a genuinely musical alternative to harder-edged VCA designs.
