About this plugin
Augmented WOODWINDS represents a thoughtful approach to woodwind sound design that bridges sampling and synthesis without compromising either discipline. The plugin combines 56 articulations drawn from solo and ensemble recordings - including clarinet, bassoon, English horn, and flute - with four distinct synthesis engines, allowing producers to anchor their work in acoustic reality while maintaining creative flexibility.
The architecture centers on a two-layer design, each capable of hosting two sound sources. This permits genuine layering between sampled and synthesized material, or combinations thereof, rather than simply blending presets. The sampling component captures both individual instruments and an 11-piece ensemble, with select recordings processed through vintage hardware to add character and cohesion. The synthesis engines provide the necessary tools for timbral manipulation, from subtle morphing to radical transformation.

Where Augmented WOODWINDS distinguishes itself is in execution rather than novelty. The preset library of 300 patches avoids the trap of over-processed, immediately dated sounds. Instead, the emphasis falls on usable, composition-ready textures that function within traditional orchestration while remaining open to experimental treatment. The integrated effects section handles additional shaping without requiring external processing.
This tool serves composers working at the intersection of classical and electronic music particularly well, as well as producers seeking orchestral texture without traditional sample library limitations. Relative to competitors like Spitfire Audio's woodwind offerings or Native Instruments' Komplete Woodwinds, Augmented WOODWINDS occupies middle ground - less comprehensively sampled than dedicated orchestral libraries, but offering superior synthesis integration and deeper sound design capability.
