About this plugin
Hollywood Pop Brass captures the sound of a professional studio horn section with remarkable immediacy. EastWest recorded a top-tier ensemble - two trumpets, trombone, and saxophones - in their Hollywood studios under the direction of engineer Moogie Canazio, whose credits span Ray Charles to Michael Bublé. The result is a plugin that delivers punchy, articulate brass with the sonic character that defined contemporary pop hits like Uptown Funk.
The library includes both four and five-piece ensemble configurations, with the saxophone section intelligently alternating between baritone, tenor, and alto voicings based on note range and harmonic context. This approach avoids the artificial switching that plagues many horn libraries. The brass sits naturally in a mix - present and driven without requiring excessive processing or automation to feel cohesive.

The sonic character emphasizes attack and clarity over warmth. These horns cut through dense arrangements, which makes them particularly valuable for pop, funk, and soul productions where brass needs to compete with contemporary drum sounds and synths. The ensemble recordings lean into a slightly compressed, studio-ready character rather than attempting pristine acoustic capture.
Among competing brass libraries, Hollywood Pop Brass occupies a specific niche: it prioritizes the sound of a working session section rather than isolated soloists or large orchestral ensembles. This specificity is its strength. For producers seeking authentic contemporary pop brass textures without extensive layering or processing, this plugin delivers with efficiency. The 2020 TEC nomination and MusicPlayers.com endorsement reflect its standing as a practical tool for modern production contexts where speed and sonic certainty matter.
