About this plugin
Augmented STRINGS represents a genuinely innovative approach to string synthesis by combining high-quality sample playback with modular synthesis architecture. Rather than delivering another orchestral library, Arturia has engineered a hybrid instrument that treats sampled strings as raw material for sonic transformation. The dual-layer, dual-source design allows producers to stack and blend sampled articulations with four distinct synthesis engines, creating textures that range from recognizably acoustic to decidedly abstract.
The technical foundation is solid. Over 60 articulations span traditional bowing techniques and contemporary extended techniques, captured across multiple microphone positions for timbral flexibility. The morphing control functions as an intelligent crossfader with customizable modulation destinations, enabling smooth transitions between disparate sound sources without relying on simple blending. Built-in effects processing handles typical requirements without necessitating external processing chains for basic character shaping.

The instrument suits contemporary composers and electronic producers seeking string textures beyond conventional sample libraries. Sound designers will appreciate the synthesis integration, which avoids forcing strings into synth paradigms and instead treats them as modulation sources. The architecture supports both detailed programming and intuitive exploration, though workflow speed depends on one's comfort with layered architecture and parameter mapping.
Among comparable tools, Augmented STRINGS occupies distinct territory. It outpaces sample-only libraries in flexibility but maintains stronger acoustic grounding than pure synthesis approaches. The execution is competent without revolutionary breakthroughs, making it a worthwhile addition for producers working regularly with string textures rather than an essential universal solution. It delivers professional results efficiently, which remains the practical measure of any instrument.
