About this plugin
Ultra Analog Session is a compact virtual analog synthesizer from Applied Acoustics Systems that prioritizes immediate sonic gratification without sacrificing depth. Built on AAS's established physical modeling engine, the instrument delivers the characteristic warmth and harmonic complexity of analog circuitry while maintaining a streamlined interface that encourages experimentation over menu diving.
The synth excels at bass and lead work, with the arpeggiator functioning as a genuine compositional tool rather than mere ornamentation. Multiple sync modes, rhythmic patterns, and algorithmic variations allow the arpeggiator to drive everything from subtle melodic counterpoint to driving sequences that lock tightly with host tempo. Unison stacking up to four voices, adjustable glide, and flexible vibrato give the instrument sufficient character for both retro and contemporary production contexts.

The built-in effects processing extends sonic possibilities considerably, though the real strength lies in the core oscillator design and filter topology. The preset library, curated by producers Richard Devine and Sean Divine, skews toward dance and electronic music but provides useful starting points for deeper sound design work. Categories span classic analog tropes - acid basslines, 303 variations, pad textures - demonstrating the plugin's range across genres.
Ultra Analog Session is best suited for producers working in electronic, dance, and pop contexts who value efficient workflow without feeling creatively constrained. It occupies a middle ground between full-featured virtual analog synths and streamlined loop tools. For engineers accustomed to complex synthesis, the interface may feel limiting, but for electronic musicians prioritizing results over parameter count, this remains a genuinely capable instrument.
