About this plugin
ModComp represents Apogee's contemporary take on dynamic control, offering a visual-first approach to compression and limiting that prioritizes transparency and workflow efficiency. The plugin's three selectable styles - Punch, Easy, and Level - provide distinct sonic characters suited to different material and mixing contexts, with Punch delivering more aggressive dynamic shaping, Easy favoring smooth, musical compression, and Level optimizing for straightforward gain reduction without coloration.
The inclusion of a dual-band sidechain EQ fundamentally distinguishes ModComp from standard limiters. This feature enables frequency-conscious dynamic control, allowing engineers to isolate compression triggering to specific frequency ranges rather than responding to the full spectrum. This proves invaluable when managing problematic low-end rumble or taming sibilant peaks without affecting the overall dynamic character of a source.

Auto makeup gain eliminates manual compensation, streamlining workflow, while the dry/wet mix parameter facilitates parallel compression techniques directly within the plugin rather than requiring auxiliary sends. The visual interface provides real-time feedback on gain reduction activity, addressing the reality that many engineers benefit from seeing compression behavior alongside hearing it.
ModComp's dual functionality - operating both as a native plugin in standard DAWs and as a hardware DSP process on Apogee interfaces - positions it for studios with existing Apogee infrastructure seeking lower-latency processing during tracking or mixing. For users without Apogee hardware, the native plugin remains fully featured and competitive. ModComp suits vocals, drums, bass, and mix bus applications where precision dynamic control meets accessibility.
