About this plugin
Antelope Audio's VEQ-55B is a four-band parametric EQ modeled after a legendary console module from the late 1960s and early 1970s that defined the sound of classic rock and soul recordings. The plugin captures the tonal signature of that original hardware through careful circuit modeling, delivering the subtle harmonic coloration and smooth frequency response characteristics that distinguish analog gear from clinical digital processing.
The VEQ-55B operates across four overlapping frequency bands, each offering up to 12 dB of boost or cut. Its most distinctive feature is the proportional bandwidth behavior, where the Q (bandwidth width) becomes progressively narrower and more aggressive as you increase the amount of cut or boost. At subtle settings, the EQ slopes gently across a wider frequency range, while aggressive adjustments produce tighter, more surgical curves. This dynamic Q behavior encourages musical mixing choices and prevents the brittle artifacts common to fixed-Q designs.

The high and low bands include a switchable bell curve or shelving mode, providing flexibility for both surgical and corrective tasks. The overlapping frequency selections across adjacent bands enable complex, multidimensional EQ curves that feel more like shaping tone than applying processing.
The VEQ-55B suits mix engineers and mastering professionals seeking authentic analog character without committing to outboard gear. It's particularly effective for sources demanding warmth and vintage cohesion - vocals, drums, and full mixes all benefit from its musicality. Available as a native plugin or real-time Synergy Core version, it represents a straightforward, unpretentious approach to EQ that prioritizes musicality over feature density.
