About this plugin
Anima is a granular resynthesis plugin that extracts pitched material from broadband audio sources through resonant filtering. Rather than treating found sound as a static element, it functions as a playable instrument capable of generating complex harmonic content from recordings that conventionally contain no discernible pitch - field recordings, environmental noise, and percussive transients all become melodic sources.
The engine centers on eight parallel resonant filters tuned to harmonic relationships derived from acoustic physics. String, Membrane, Bar, Plate, and Bell modes follow real instrument overtone series, while three Noise materials operate in reverse, vocoder-style, to extract rhythmic character from clicks and taps. Each harmonic voice carries independent gain, pan, and mute controls, allowing surgical shaping of which frequency components become prominent in the final output.

The dual sample architecture enables real-time blending between two source recordings, complete with separate attack and sustain envelopes per slot. Live capture functionality eliminates workflow friction by recording directly from your DAW. A particularly thoughtful feature, the Life knob introduces independent drift across harmonics - subtle wow and flutter that prevents sustained chords from becoming static. Transient snapping anchors loop points to detected attacks, maintaining rhythmic coherence.
Anima distinguishes itself through sonic philosophy rather than technical novelty. It excels for producers seeking emotional resonance from material synthesis can't replicate - intimate domestic sounds, specific geographical recordings, or irreplaceable moments. The results occupy unusual territory: neither pure sample manipulation nor conventional synthesis, but something between, where randomness and design coexist productively. It's essential for experimentalists and highly valuable for soundtrack and ambient work.
