Alien Drive

Alien Drive is a wavetable waveshaper that fundamentally reimagines distortion processing by substituting the static transfer curves of traditional saturation and clipping plugins with dynamic navigation through a 256-curve wavetable bank. Rather than applying a fixed nonlinearity, the signal traces a path through this curve library, with independent control over curve family (X-axis) and sharpness (Y-axis), both axes interpolating to yield genuine new nonlinearities rather than simple crossfades.

The plugin's core strength emerges in its wavefolding architecture. Unlike conventional clippers that truncate peaks, the Fold Gain parameter pushes signals deeper into the wavetable, causing them to fold back on themselves and generate harmonics impossible through clipping alone. The Rotate function shifts the harmonic content further by offsetting where signals enter the curve, effectively pivoting the fold point across the waveform.

Two modulation systems animate these processes. An envelope follower tracks transient dynamics to modulate curve position across the bank, allowing the distortion character to tighten and loosen with the source material's attack and sustain. A tempo-synced LFO offers seven modulation destinations, enabling rhythmic harmonic evolution. These sit alongside a germanium-modeled overdriver with tunable tone coloration and a shelving EQ with resonant peak for shaping the output.
