About this plugin
Vacuum Vintage Crossgrade is Air Music Technology's entry point for existing Pro Tools, Vacuum Pro, AIEP 3, AKAI VIP, and MPC Software users seeking their classic vintage synth in standalone AU/VST format. This monophonic synthesizer employs vacuum tube circuit modeling to authentically reproduce the harmonic distortion and frequency response characteristics of analog synthesizers from the 1970s and 1980s.
The architecture centers on two morphable oscillators, a design choice that distinguishes Vacuum from competitors offering fixed waveform selection. Rather than committing to sine, triangle, sawtooth, or square individually, users continuously blend between these shapes, yielding tonal variations difficult to achieve through static oscillators alone. Signal flow progresses through a mixer stage with drive and ring modulation capabilities before reaching parallel high-pass and low-pass filter sections, each equipped with saturation controls for aggressive character when needed.

The "age" parameters represent the plugin's most distinctive feature. These controls introduce pitch drift and dust artifacts, simulating the gradual degradation of vintage hardware. This proves invaluable for producers seeking authentic analog grit without requiring actual vintage gear or sample-based emulation.
The included preset library, curated by sound designers Richard Devine and Mark Ovenden, spans leads, pads, basses, arpeggiators, percussive sounds, and effects - providing both immediate usability and legitimate starting points for deep exploration.
Vacuum Vintage suits electronic music producers, film composers, and sound designers prioritizing authentic analog character over complex polyphonic capabilities. Among monophonic vintage synth emulations, it remains competitively voiced with genuine circuit modeling rather than purely algorithmic synthesis.
