About this plugin
Boom stands as one of the most capable drum machine emulations available in plugin form, earning its reputation through genuine sonic depth rather than superficial aesthetics. Originally developed as part of Pro Tools' Creative Collection, this instrument has matured into a legitimate production tool that balances approachability with serious sound design capability.
The plugin's architecture centers on ten discrete electronic drum kits, each modeled after influential hardware references including the ubiquitous 808 and 909, alongside more contemporary dance and urban-oriented configurations. A hybrid kit inspired by merging the Roland CR78 with the 606 provides useful middle ground for producers seeking vintage character without period-specific limitations. Each drum within a kit responds to independent controls for panning, volume, tuning, and decay, while individual tuning screws allow for precise sonic sculpting across the frequency spectrum.

What distinguishes Boom from comparable tools is its practical implementation of cross-kit mixing, enabling producers to construct custom drum sounds by combining elements across different kits rather than remaining locked into preset collections. The inclusion of an onboard sequencer and over fifty professionally crafted presets covering electronic and urban genres adds workflow efficiency without compromising hands-on sound design.
Boom's user interface reflects thoughtful design that prioritizes intuitive control over skeuomorphic excess. MIDI implementation follows standard pitch mapping, making integration into existing production systems straightforward. This crossgrade option targets Pro Tools users and holders of complementary Air products seeking a focused drum solution that delivers consistent results across commercial and experimental contexts alike.
