About this plugin
Zodiac is a sound design instrument built from the ground up using organic source material rather than synthesis. Big Fish Audio constructed every patch by recording and processing found sounds, prepared instruments, and field recordings through extreme sonic manipulation techniques rooted in musique concrete and avant-garde composition practices. The result is a 200+ patch library spanning over 8GB of uncompressed audio that prioritizes textural experimentation over conventional instrument emulation.
The plugin's strength lies in its tonal character. Where traditional virtual instruments aim for acoustic realism, Zodiac embraces processed, layered, and often atonal soundscapes. Pads and atmospheres occupy the ethereal end of the spectrum, while melodic and bass instruments incorporate harmonic complexity and evolving timbral movement. The percussive and experimental categories operate in stranger territory, offering metallic textures, rhythmic drones, and amorphous sonic events that resist easy classification.

Zodiac works best within specific creative contexts. Film and television composers seeking non-standard ambient textures will find immediate utility in the atmospheric patches. Game audio designers benefit from the experimental category's ability to convey unease or otherworldliness. Electronic music producers focused on experimental and IDM styles will appreciate the tonal palette and the instrument's responsiveness to velocity and octave variation, where the same patch can yield dramatically different results depending on performance approach.
The editing interface remains deliberately simple - filters, envelope controls, and modulation options operate intuitively without overwhelming complexity. This design philosophy acknowledges that Zodiac's primary value proposition resides in the source material itself rather than deep synthesis capabilities. For producers seeking departure from standard virtual instrument libraries, Zodiac delivers genuine sonic differentiation.
