About this plugin
Zebra 3 represents a fundamental rethinking of what a modern VA synthesizer can accomplish. Rather than inheriting limitations from its predecessors, u-he rebuilt the instrument from the ground up with three distinct synthesis engines operating in parallel: analogue modelling for warm, characterful oscillators and filters; physical modelling for plucked strings, struck bars, and resonant bodies; and purely digital synthesis for tasks where precision matters. This architectural flexibility allows you to blend seemingly incompatible sonic territories within a single voice.
The Generator Rack is where the synthesis happens. Four morphing oscillators can render hand-drawn waveforms or classic wavetables with up to 16-voice unison, but they can also operate as additive engines containing up to 1024 sine partials. Each oscillator has two serial FX slots offering processes like spectral filtering and phase distortion that go well beyond standard wave shaping. Four independent FM oscillators accept external modulation from any rack signal, eliminating the rigid topologies that constrain most VA instruments. The supporting cast - noise generators, exciters, modal resonators, and over 105 filter responses - work cohesively rather than as scattered utilities.
