About this plugin
XO Expansion: Sub Liminal by ATEQ represents XLN Audio's collaboration with Berlin's minimalist techno architect, capturing the essence of underground club production through a meticulously curated sample and preset library. Built within the XO plugin framework, this expansion delivers 383 one-shot samples and 83 mix-ready presets sourced directly from ATEQ's modular synthesis workflow and drum machine explorations.
The sonic palette emphasizes textural depth over complexity. Kick drums possess the kind of weight that defines peak-time techno, while snares and hi-hats demonstrate crisp definition without excessive brightness. ATEQ's signature approach - letting modular oscillators and analog machines interact organically before capturing the results - translates into samples with natural harmonic development and unpredictable character. This methodology yields sounds that integrate seamlessly into existing productions while maintaining distinctiveness.

The expansion functions effectively as a dub and minimal techno toolkit. Loops remain fully editable within XO's interface, allowing tempo adjustment and layering across MIDI tracks. One-shot samples provide flexibility for custom drum programming, while presets serve as starting points for further sound design rather than finished textures.
Sub Liminal suits producers working in techno, house, and industrial genres who prioritize sonic cohesion and understated sophistication. Those seeking pristine drum samples or dramatic synthesis will find better alternatives elsewhere. For engineers committed to the hypnotic, marathon-duration aesthetic that defines contemporary Berlin techno, this expansion offers proven, production-ready material sourced from an artist whose work exemplifies the genre's current artistic direction.
