About this plugin
XLN Audio's United Pop ADpak brings the sonic signature of United Recording's legendary Studio A into your DAW. Recorded at the Hollywood institution that has hosted everyone from Michael Jackson to U2, this expansion captures the character of a vintage Leedy & Ludwig kit paired with period-appropriate cymbals, all processed through the room's carefully maintained signal chain.
The kit itself balances warmth with clarity. The 22x14" kick sits deep but articulate, with enough attack to cut through contemporary mixes. Dual snare options - a Ludwig nickel over brass and a Japanese Trump drum - provide tonal variety from crisp and controlled to darker and more resonant. The tom lineup offers both high and low tunings across three drums, giving you flexibility without requiring excessive programming.

What distinguishes this ADpak sonically is its restraint. Rather than imposing heavy processing, the samples preserve the natural decay and room character of Studio A. Cymbals feel settled into the mix rather than splashy. This approach makes it particularly valuable for producers working in modern pop, indie pop, and alternative contexts where drum kits need definition without sounding clinical.
The 30+ presets ship genuinely usable sounds rather than experimental variations. Most sit well in contemporary productions immediately. For engineers accustomed to working with dated or thin drum samples, the tonal body here feels refreshing.
The United Pop ADpak serves producers who prioritize sonic authenticity and historical reference over novelty. It's a professional tool that justifies its cost through consistent mixability and the intangible but real advantage of tracking drums in one of recording's most respected rooms.
