About this plugin
The Metal ADpak for Addictive Drums 2 represents a focused approach to metal drum production, curated by Ross Robinson and built around a deliberately chosen collection of acoustic instruments. The kit centers on a 22x18" Ludwig Classic Maple kick paired with a 14x5" Gretsch Hammered Chrome snare, supported by a five-piece tom rack and complemented by a comprehensive cymbal selection spanning Zildjian and Sabian hardware. The sonic character emphasizes attack and clarity across the frequency spectrum - qualities essential to metal mixing where drums must cut through dense guitar arrangements.
The inclusion of discrete trig sounds for kick and snare distinguishes this ADpak from standard drum libraries. This feature addresses a production technique prevalent in modern metal, where layered transients add aggression without sacrificing the core acoustic character. The approach proves particularly effective for genres requiring heightened impact without resorting to sample replacement or excessive processing.

The 31 presets, developed by Robinson alongside contributors including Björn Gelotte and members of the metal production community, function as practical starting points rather than finished products. They cover expected territory across death metal, speed metal, and traditional heavy metal idioms, each demonstrating specific choices in compression, EQ, and spatial treatment. The presets succeed most when treated as editable templates rather than definitive solutions.
This ADpak serves metal producers and engineers prioritizing acoustic drum character with controlled aggression. It occupies practical ground for those favoring hardware-based drum sourcing over purely synthetic alternatives, though its value depends on workflow integration within Addictive Drums 2's existing architecture.
