About this plugin
XLN Audio's Funk ADpak expands Addictive Drums 2 with samples from a Pearl Reference Series kit, one of the industry's most respected acoustic drum platforms. Recorded at professional resolution in a controlled studio environment, the library captures the kit's characteristic warmth and articulation across a full complement of acoustic percussion: a 22x16" kick, 14x5" snare, four toms ranging from 10" to 16", and a carefully curated selection of cymbals including Paiste hihats and crashes from both Sabian's HHX Evolution and Artisan lines. A cowbell rounds out the extended palette.
The sonic character leans distinctly toward modern funk and groove-oriented production. The Pearl Reference's inherent resonance translates well through the sampling process, delivering drums with genuine sustain and harmonic complexity rather than the compressed, deadened tone common in some drum libraries. The kick exhibits definition without excessive sub-weight, the snare maintains crisp articulation across dynamic ranges, and the toms retain natural pitch variation that responds authentically to velocity changes.

The 30 production-ready presets demonstrate competent sound design work, spanning approaches from minimal processing to heavily shaped textures. While the presets provide solid starting points, experienced engineers will find the kit's real value in its sample quality and flexibility within the Addictive Drums 2 framework, allowing detailed mixing and layering. This ADpak suits producers working in funk, soul, R&B, and related genres where acoustic drum character matters, though the recordings' fidelity makes the samples viable across many musical contexts.
