About this plugin
Wavesfactory's Muted Trumpet Harmon delivers a meticulously sampled Harmon mute trumpet library built for Kontakt, capturing the distinctive nasal, metallic character that defined Miles Davis' modal jazz recordings. The instrument comprises 731 samples across three velocity layers and articulations, with each note and transition captured without pitch shifting - a critical distinction that preserves the natural tonal variations inherent to the physical instrument.
The core articulation set includes sustains, staccato, and true legato transitions, selectable via key switches alongside optional round-robin cycling for natural repetition. This approach prioritizes playability over processing, allowing intuitive performance without extensive parameter tweaking. The legato implementation merits particular attention for string-focused arrangers seeking trumpet voicing solutions, as the sampled transitions eliminate the artifacts typical of velocity-crossfaded alternatives.

Beyond the raw samples, Wavesfactory's integrated effects framework significantly expands sonic possibilities. The proprietary script accommodates comprehensive effect chains including parametric EQ, multi-stage compression, modulation processors, saturation, algorithmic and convolution reverb with forty custom impulses, and amp simulation. This integration proves valuable for contextualizing the Harmon's characteristic brightness within mixed arrangements without external processing overhead.
The library's 399 MB footprint and three-velocity architecture represent practical compromises rather than limitations. While not approaching the sample density of premium orchestral libraries, the focused scope suits composers working within specific harmonic and stylistic contexts - modal jazz idioms, period-appropriate film scoring, or contemporary music featuring muted brass. Requires full Kontakt 5.7.3 or later.
