About this plugin
BlackToms 2.0 stands as a comprehensive sampling library and performance instrument for Kontakt, delivering meticulously recorded drum sounds from three tom sizes captured in a controlled studio setting. Wavesfactory has restructured the original 2012 release with fresh recordings, an overhauled interface, and modernized scripting that significantly expands its practical utility in contemporary production workflows.
The library captures both close and distant microphone perspectives: tight Sennheiser 421 stereo pairs positioned near the drums, paired with spaced AKG 414 condensers placed at room distance. This dual-mic approach allows producers to blend dry, punchy tom character with spatial dimension, or commit fully to either perspective depending on mix requirements. The independent mixer for each channel includes comprehensive controls - pan, level, mute/solo, stereo width adjustment, and output routing - making it straightforward to integrate the toms into complex mixing sessions.

The effects implementation distinguishes BlackToms 2.0 from basic drum libraries. Eight parallel effect slots per channel support genuine processing chains: parametric EQ, multiple compressor styles, modulation effects, distortion, convolution reverb with forty custom impulse responses, and amp simulation. This transforms the library from a static playback tool into a sculpting instrument capable of producing anything from classic rock tom sounds to heavily processed, genre-specific textures.
Performance controls - round robin selection, dynamic range adjustment, velocity curves, and envelope shaping - grant substantial tonal flexibility while reducing CPU overhead through intelligent sample purging. The mod-wheel layering system adds expressiveness during performance. BlackToms 2.0 suits producers requiring reliable, sonically deep tom sounds without committing to full drum libraries, particularly those valuing mic choice and processing depth.
