About this plugin
Trans-X addresses a genuine mixing challenge: controlling transient character across frequency ranges without resorting to multiple plugins or destructive editing. The plugin delivers straightforward transient shaping via gain and release time parameters, with a technical foundation built on level and duration detection that lets you target specific attack characteristics rather than processing everything equally.
The wideband mode functions as a conventional single-band transient processor, useful for standard punch adjustment on drums or attack enhancement on guitars and bass. The multiband implementation is where Trans-X gains its distinctive utility. By dividing the spectrum into four independently editable bands with a phase-compensated crossover, the plugin handles mixed sources elegantly. You can tighten a kick drum's low-end attack while simultaneously softening acoustic guitar strums in the upper midrange, all on a stereo mixdown lacking individual tracks.

This architecture proves particularly valuable for mastering engineers, remix specialists, and anyone working with stems or stereo mixes where track isolation isn't possible. The ability to filter transients by both level and duration prevents unintended processing of transients you want to preserve, adding precision to what could otherwise be blunt surgical intervention.
Waves positions Trans-X as purpose-built for drama and punch enhancement, though its release-time controls also excel at smoothing aggressive transients. The included presets from professional engineers provide reasonable starting points, though experienced users will find the parameter set minimal enough to quickly dial in custom settings. It's a focused tool that succeeds within its defined scope.
