About this plugin
The JJP Analog Legends Bundle delivers two essential mixing tools modeled directly from Jack Joseph Puig's personal collection of studio classics: the Fairchild 660/670 variable-mu compressor and the Pultec EQP-1A/MEQ-5 equalizers. Waves' modeling captures the harmonic coloration and dynamic behavior fundamental to these units, which have shaped countless commercial recordings across five decades.
The PuigChild compressor exhibits the smooth, musical compression characteristic of tube-based variable-mu design. Rather than attacking transients aggressively, it imparts a cohesive glue to sources while adding subtle harmonic saturation from its modeled tube and transformer circuitry. This makes it particularly effective on vocals, bass, and drum bus applications where transparency and musicality matter more than precise control.

The PuigTec EQs offer the gentle, shelving character of passive LC equalization. The EQP-1A provides classic low and high-frequency shaping, while the MEQ-5 adds three parametric mid-range bands, enabling surgical correction without the clinical edge of active designs. Both retain the transformer-based coloration that makes Pultec units favored on mastering chains and individual sources.
These tools suit experienced engineers seeking authentic analog character without hardware maintenance or acquisition costs. They excel when applied subtly rather than dramatically, rewarding understanding of their operational philosophy. Among plugin emulations of these classics, this bundle's pedigree - derived from hand-selected units and developed with a mixer of Puig's stature - positions it as a legitimate first choice for professionals and serious producers prioritizing sonic authenticity.
