About this plugin
Waves' Abbey Road REDD Consoles plugin recreates three distinct signal paths from the legendary REDD mixing consoles that defined the sonic character of 1960s Abbey Road recordings. Rather than emulating a single desk, this plugin offers three separate channel strips with progressively refined topologies, capturing the evolution of the REDD line from its original 1960 iteration through to the iconic REDD.51.
The REDD.17 and REDD.37 models are based on the Siemens V72 tube amplifier topology, known for delivering smooth, musical saturation with a distinctly warm coloration. The REDD.51 models the famous in-house REDD.47 preamp design, offering a slightly different flavor of tube compression and harmonic enrichment. All three strips share a deliberately minimal EQ section - a three-band design that prioritizes musicality over surgical precision, making radical tonal shifts difficult but purposeful adjustments straightforward.

The drive control is the plugin's most distinctive feature, allowing users to push the tube saturation into progressively more aggressive territory, from subtle warmth to the hard-edged, compressed punch characteristic of 1960s pop records. This makes the REDD Consoles particularly effective on drums, bass, and vocals, where that compressed, forward-pushing character is most flattering.
For producers and engineers seeking authentic vintage console character without reaching for hardware, the REDD Consoles stands among the more accurately modeled options available. It excels in mixing contexts where subtle harmonic enhancement and gentle compression are preferred over transparent processing, making it essential for anyone pursuing that classic British Invasion aesthetic or simply seeking console-grade warmth in the box.
