About this plugin
Waldorf's Blofeld plugin brings the legendary wavetable synthesis engine of the hardware classic into your DAW, maintaining the sonic DNA that defined an era of synthesizer design. At its core lies a powerhouse wavetable oscillator system derived from the PPG synthesizers of the early 1980s, which established the template for edgy, bell-like timbres that remain sonically distinctive four decades later. The plugin features three oscillators per voice with full wavetable morphing capability, FM between oscillators, and support for all Microwave II/XT/XTk wavetables plus user-loaded tables from MIDI or WAV files.
The signal path centers on dual independent multimode filters per voice, providing substantial tonal shaping potential. A 16-slot modulation matrix with nine fixed routings handles complex parameter interactions, while four freely assignable modifiers enable mathematical operations as modulation sources. The implementation grants comprehensive access to envelopes, LFOs, and effects processing without sacrificing the immediacy required for real-time sound design.

Blofeld's arpeggiator distinguishes itself through 15 core patterns expanded via an integrated pattern editor, transforming the feature into a genuine creative tool rather than mere accompaniment. The preset browser employs database architecture with extensive sorting and filtering, essential for navigating substantial sound libraries. The plugin maintains bidirectional hardware control compatibility, functioning as both a standalone instrument and controller for existing Blofeld hardware units.
The plugin targets producers and sound designers comfortable with complex synthesis seeking Waldorf's particular sonic character - that characteristic richness and assertiveness that appears throughout modern electronic music. It remains a serious choice for anyone requiring authentic wavetable synthesis within their DAW workflow.
