About this plugin
UJAM's BRAAASS represents a specialized approach to orchestral brass composition, drawing from Hans Zimmer's archive of studio recordings made at Remote Control Studios. The plugin operates as a phrase-based instrument rather than a traditional sampler, offering 78 playing styles with 468 pre-arranged phrases designed to function as building blocks within larger arrangements. This methodology prioritizes compositional coherence over granular sound design, making it particularly effective for producers seeking ready-made brass textures that integrate seamlessly without extensive editing.
The architecture separates low brass (tubas, bass trombones) from high brass (trumpets, horns) through independent control channels, allowing precise tonal customization via character and motion effects. A crossfade control enables dynamic blending between sections, accommodating everything from layered orchestrations to stark sectional contrasts. One-shot additions provide rhythmic flexibility beyond the phrase library, expanding compositional possibilities.

BRAAASS functions best as a compositional tool for film composers, video game score writers, and producers seeking authentic orchestral brass without sampling library management. The 250+ finisher presets address sound design requirements, ranging from subtle cinematic reverb treatments to experimental processing that abstracts the brass character entirely.
For experienced engineers, this plugin fills a specific niche between full orchestral libraries and boutique brass samples. Its strength lies in phrase quality and performance logic rather than technical innovation. The upfront library organization requires some workflow adjustment compared to traditional sample-based instruments, but rewards users who embrace its phrase-first philosophy with genuinely cohesive results.
