About this plugin
Virtual Drummer SOLID 2 represents a refined approach to drum programming for producers seeking authentic groove without excessive workflow friction. The plugin functions as a comprehensive drum machine and performance engine, offering 60 musical styles spanning contemporary and classic idioms, each with multiple pattern variations derived from 1,380 individual drum arrangements.
The core strength lies in its drum kit customization and sonic shaping. Five distinct drum kits serve as starting points, each tweakable via individual component level controls, overhead and room microphone faders, and a reverb section. The slam control adds punch to transients, while six character presets morph the tonal palette from vintage warmth to aggressive compression. These tools allow rapid iteration without diving into sample editing.

SOLID 2's workflow enhancements distinguish it from earlier versions. Drag and drop phrase export directly into your DAW eliminates copy-paste tedium, while multiple audio outputs enable mixing individual drum elements as separate tracks. The new master section introduces saturation and limiting, providing final-stage control within the plugin itself.
The humanize and timing controls (push/pull beat adjustment) address a persistent challenge in drum programming: maintaining human feel without sounding robotic. Whether laying quick scratch tracks or crafting intricate rhythmic arrangements, these parameters preserve intentionality in the performance.
SOLID 2 occupies a practical middle ground for working producers and engineers. It lacks the deep sampling capabilities of workstation plugins or the limitless customization of fully featured drum machines, but trades specialization for accessibility and speed. For those prioritizing finished, musicality-focused drum foundations over extensive sound design, it delivers efficiently.
