About this plugin
PHAT 2 represents a meaningful refinement of UJAM's hip-hop and funk drum instrument, adding substantive workflow improvements that justify the upgrade for existing users. The core engine remains unchanged - a capable virtual drummer built around 60 styles and nearly 1400 patterns designed to generate authentic groove-oriented beats without requiring programming experience. The sonic character leans toward contemporary urban production, with emphasis on pocket playing and rhythmic pocket rather than metronomic precision.
The upgrade's primary value lies in practical enhancements for modern production environments. Drag-and-drop phrase functionality into your DAW eliminates the previous limitation of exporting stems, enabling non-destructive beat editing and real-time pattern manipulation alongside your arrangement. The expanded mixer section now provides individual output routing per drum element, a feature increasingly standard in competitor products but previously absent here. This addition allows for external processing of kicks, snares, and cymbals independently.

The enhanced master section incorporates saturation and maximizer tools, addressing a gap where users previously required external processing to achieve cohesive drum bus character. Thirty new styles and 150 additional presets expand the sonic palette, though the foundational library already provided substantial depth.
PHAT 2 remains best suited for producers working in hip-hop, R&B, and funk contexts who prioritize workflow speed over granular pattern editing. Those requiring intricate drum programming capabilities or seeking acoustic realism should consider alternatives. For beat-makers and hip-hop producers invested in the original PHAT, the upgrade offers meaningful quality-of-life improvements that align with current production standards.
