About this plugin
UJAM's MELLOW 2 represents a meaningful refinement of their acoustic bass virtual instrument, tailored specifically for producers already invested in the UJAM ecosystem. This crossgrade adds substantial content and functional improvements to an already capable tool, making it worth considering for existing users seeking expanded creative options.
The core instrument remains a meticulously sampled upright double bass, but the update introduces 20 new playing styles and 30 additional presets alongside an integrated 15-mode Finisher multi-effects section. The addition of MIDI drag-and-drop functionality streamlines workflow integration, while backward compatibility ensures existing sessions remain intact.

Sonically, MELLOW 2 occupies a distinctly warm territory - the acoustic character reads as genuinely performed rather than synthesized, with articulation modeling that responds intelligently to velocity and timing. The instrument excels across jazz, RnB, and hip-hop applications, delivering equal competence whether serving as a subtle harmonic foundation or a rhythmically assertive voice. The fingered playing style carries discernible texture that synthetic competitors often struggle to achieve.
The interface maintains UJAM's signature "frustration-free" design philosophy, prioritizing accessibility without sacrificing depth. This makes the plugin equally at home in amateur and professional studios, though experienced producers may find the control set somewhat limiting for nuanced performance manipulation.
For UJAM ecosystem participants, the loyalty upgrade path provides legitimate value through expanded phrase libraries and the Finisher effects suite integration. Those working outside the UJAM infrastructure should evaluate whether the crossgrade economics justify adoption relative to alternatives like Native Instruments Session Strings or Spitfire's orchestral bass options.
