About this plugin
UJAM's DEEP is a drum plugin that synthesizes the rhythmic vocabulary of 1960s and 70s soul and funk into a contemporary production tool. The instrument provides 30 styles encompassing 690 drum patterns, drawn from the grooves that defined the Funk Brothers and similar session ensembles of that era. What distinguishes DEEP from generic drum machines is its technical implementation: up to 60 velocity layers per instrument ensure nuanced dynamics, while UJAM's round-robin algorithm prevents the mechanical repetition that plagues less sophisticated tools.
The sonic character reflects careful microphone selection, combining vintage and modern recording techniques to achieve both period authenticity and modern clarity. Stereo overhead and room microphone pairs grant engineers genuine mixing autonomy rather than preset-locked tonal options. The five drum kits and 70 sound designer presets span interpretations from faithful vintage recreation to contemporary recontextualization.

DEEP functions optimally as part of a complementary ecosystem, particularly when paired with Virtual Bassist DANDY through identically named style templates that ensure rhythmic cohesion. However, the plugin operates effectively as a standalone tool for producers seeking soulful, complex drum programming without resorting to sample libraries or manual sequencing.
The Grit morphing control provides a straightforward mechanism for shifting tonal character across the retro to contemporary spectrum. Drag-and-drop phrase export enables detailed note editing within DAWs, allowing producers to refine patterns beyond preset constraints.
This crossgrade license represents an economical entry point for existing UJAM customers seeking to augment their production toolkit with purposeful, character-driven drum programming rooted in proven musical traditions.
