About this plugin
Virtual Drummer BRUTE represents UJAM's answer to a specific production need: drums that cut through dense, distorted guitar arrangements without sacrificing punch or character. This crossgrade product - available to owners of any paid UJAM instrument - targets the hard rock, grunge, and nu-metal idiom with a focused toolkit designed around late '90s and early 2000s aesthetics.
The core strength lies in its recording methodology. BRUTE was captured using three distinct microphone arrays, each addressing a different frequency spectrum of the drum kit. The Sennheiser MD21 vintage condenser emphasizes click and smack, allowing transients to survive dense mixes, while additional mic configurations handle body and ambience. This multi-mic approach is technically sound and reflects how experienced engineers actually capture drums for guitar-heavy material.

The package includes five genre-specific kits, six mix presets, and 31 playing styles with 23 phrases each - a substantial performance library covering punk, grunge, and crossover territories. Rather than pursuing the all-encompassing approach of competing products, BRUTE accepts its limitations willingly. It's not attempting to replace HEAVY 2 for pure metal work or SOLID 2 for classic rock contexts. It occupies the middle ground deliberately.
For engineers mixing loud, distorted guitar music, BRUTE offers practical drum tones that prioritize intelligibility and aggression. The sounds are inherently aggressive without sounding processed, which matters when competing for frequency real estate. It's a specialized tool that understands its audience and executes that specification competently.
