About this plugin
Ueberschall's Saxophone Solos delivers a focused collection of tenor saxophone phrases designed for integration into funk, soul, and contemporary electronic productions. The library contains over 350 loops and phrases organized across 21 tempo and key folders, spanning 90 to 124 BPM with individual segments ranging from one to eight bars. The 770MB sample set was recorded to maintain sonic consistency across folders, making cross-folder layering practical without audible discontinuities.
The material itself reflects authentic funk and soul phrasing rather than generic horn stabs. Phrases range from short, melodic hooks to extended solo lines, giving producers genuine options for either building complete solos or introducing focused textural elements. The recorded tone carries the characteristic warmth and expressiveness of a tenor saxophone without artificial processing, which translates well across genres beyond funk - particularly in house, pop, and downtempo contexts where organic horn elements remain valuable.

Integration occurs through Elastik, Ueberschall's sample management and manipulation engine. Elastik's tempo and pitch tools handle the necessary adjustments when moving phrases between projects, while the browser interface allows real-time key and scale matching. The formant and resample controls provide additional sonic flexibility for adapting phrases to specific production contexts.
Saxophone Solos works most effectively for producers who understand how to construct solos from component phrases and who value authenticity over convenience. It complements percussion-focused libraries well, particularly those centered on funk grooves. While not a comprehensive horn solution, it occupies a practical middle ground between full sample libraries and virtual instruments, delivering usable material with minimal editing overhead.
