About this plugin
Sounds of the Earth's Uakara plugin captures the distinctive tonal character of Israel Badilla's handcrafted string instrument with considerable fidelity. Built from 602 audio files and processed into 4255 Kontakt samples, the library documents the instrument's signature sound: an unusual timbral richness derived from its four double-string pairs tuned an octave apart, with particular emphasis on the resonant, slightly compressed character of the two lowest courses. The performer Daniel Mora's non-standard tuning (C on the fourth string rather than D) expands the harmonic palette beyond conventional guitar voicings.
The plugin includes eight discrete microphone options, a practical approach that allows users to shape the instrument's presence from intimate close-miking through room ambience capture. This flexibility proves valuable when integrating the Uakara's particular warmth and sustain into dense arrangements or sparse, featured contexts. The lower-register response demonstrates the expected bloom and natural compression of sympathetic string vibration, while upper strings maintain clarity without brittleness.

For producers working in world music, ambient, or contemporary composition, this library functions effectively as both a primary instrumental voice and a textural complement. The sample set's careful documentation of a genuinely rare instrument offers something genuinely distinct from standard string libraries. Compared to conventional nylon-string guitar instruments, the Uakara occupies unique harmonic territory that resists straightforward categorization. The 1.15GB footprint remains manageable for most systems.
