About this plugin
The SH-20 captures the character of Roland's 1979 SH-2, translating its two-oscillator architecture into a polyphonic plugin within Tracktion's Attracktive framework. Where the original was confined to monophonic operation, this expansion pack unlocks the synth's potential across multiple voices, preserving the essential sonic fingerprint while removing the performance limitations of its hardware predecessor.
The SH-2 occupies an interesting position in Roland's lineage. It arrived after the company's more celebrated designs but before the 808 and 909 became cultural touchstones. Its appeal lies not in polished sophistication but in raw, unrefined character - the kind of sound that benefits from the slightly gritty harmonic content and particular filter resonance that defined late 70s monosynth design.

This expansion excels for producers seeking authentic vintage texture without restoration archaeology. The preset library of 70 patches provides immediate starting points across bass, lead, and pad applications, though the fully programmable oscillators and filter envelope invite deeper exploration. The sonic character works particularly well in lo-fi, funk, and synthwave contexts where that particular vintage edge feels appropriate rather than antiquated.
For engineers already invested in Attracktive's workflow, the SH-20 adds a historically grounded voice that complements more modern or polished expansions. It's best suited for producers comfortable with hands-on synthesis and those specifically interested in 70s monosynth character rather than users seeking cutting-edge sound design tools. Within that context, it represents a legitimate addition to the Attracktive ecosystem.
