About this plugin
The Cubase Artist 15 upgrade represents a significant step up from the entry-level AI package, delivering professional-grade production capabilities without the complexity of the full Studio edition. For existing Cubase AI users, this upgrade path provides expanded MIDI and audio tooling, additional VST instruments and effects, and enhanced mixing infrastructure at a reasonable cost of ownership.
The core strength of Artist lies in its refined workflow optimization. The MixConsole gains more sophisticated routing capabilities, sidechain filtering, and channel strip organization compared to AI. Audio editing receives meaningful improvements through enhanced VariAudio functionality and more granular time-stretching algorithms, critical for working with vocal takes and time-critical material. The MIDI environment expands with the Chord Track, Drum Editor, and Scale Assistant - genuinely useful features for compositional work that AI omits.

Artist 15 targets serious hobbyists and semi-professional producers who've outgrown AI's limitations but don't require the mastering-specific tools or advanced scoring features in Studio. It's particularly well-suited for songwriters, electronic producers, and small studio operators working across multiple genres. The upgrade cost is reasonable given the expanded feature set, making it an intelligent stepping stone rather than a forced jump to expensive full-version pricing.
Within the DAW hierarchy, Artist occupies pragmatic middle ground. It doesn't match the specialized depth of Logic Pro or Pro Tools in their respective domains, but it maintains Cubase's reputation for intuitive design and solid technical fundamentals. For AI users specifically, upgrading unlocks enough additional capability to justify the investment.
