About this plugin
SuperPlate is a meticulously engineered reverb plugin that models five canonical plate reverb units spanning from the EMT 140 through the EcoPlate III. Rather than offering generic plate algorithms, Soundtoys has captured the distinct sonic fingerprints of each classic machine, including the EMT 240's darker character derived from its unconventional gold foil construction and the EcoPlate III's characteristically bright, spacious response. The plugin's architecture accounts for crucial tonal differences between tube and solid-state electronics, with selectable analog coloration modes that can be paired with any plate style to dial in the precise vintage character required.
The technical implementation goes beyond simple modeling. Decay ducking intelligently manages reverb tail buildup in dense arrangements, while expanded modulation controls allow subtle movement that prevents artificial brittleness. A comprehensive EQ section enables meaningful tonal shaping rather than serving as an afterthought. Predelay and infinite decay options address practical studio needs without compromising authenticity.

SuperPlate appeals primarily to mixing engineers working in genres where plate reverb remains the sonic standard - pop, soul, R&B, and rock - though its versatility extends to contemporary music production. Mastering engineers and producers tracking vocals will find the bright, controlled character particularly useful for maintaining vocal intelligibility within dense mixes. Given the computational accuracy and the collective sonic legacy represented here, SuperPlate functions as a legitimate alternative to hardware ownership, delivering results that compete with actual plate reverbs while offering flexibility no physical unit can match. For professionals seeking authenticity without compromise, it's an essential tool.
