Shake is a meticulously curated percussion library containing 95 shakers, rattles, and bells captured through live performance by British composer David Oliver. The collection draws from global percussion traditions - African, Latin American, and Indian sources alongside world instruments - and includes both conventional instruments and Oliver's own improvised creations, such as the bamboo rainstick shaker and pad box multi-effect shaker filled with ball bearings.
The library's strength lies in its practical depth. Oliver recorded extensive grooves, fills, and rolls alongside individual hits, then segmented them into seamless 2-bar loops across multiple time signatures (3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/8, 7/8) and tempos ranging from 80bpm to 280bpm. This approach eliminates the common friction point in rhythm programming where generic percussion loops rarely align with a composition's specific metric or harmonic requirements.
The interface employs Soundiron's modular UI design with built-in filtering by instrument type, style keyword, tempo, and time signature. A favorites system allows quick recall of preferred loops. The slot grid architecture enables layering and customization across individual samples, with comprehensive mixing and effects processing.
Shake targets composers and producers working across film, game audio, and genre-agnostic music production where authentic, dynamically performed percussion is essential but time-intensive to source. While percussion libraries proliferate, Shake distinguishes itself through Oliver's performance sensibility and meticulous loop preparation at unconventional time signatures - practical considerations that elevate it beyond generic rhythm packs.
