About this plugin
Bass Machina is a comprehensive bass guitar virtual instrument built on multi-sampled recordings of a custom 5-string Kiesel bass. Soundiron's sampling methodology captures the instrument across its full range with multiple articulations including picked sustains, taps, slaps, pops, and mutes, alongside programmable slides and fully controllable hammer-ons and pull-offs. The library prioritizes authentic bass behavior rather than abstract synthesis, making it suitable for players who require realistic performance dynamics.
The instrument ships with three preset categories addressing different workflow priorities. Main presets load the complete sample set with maximum round-robins for tonal variation. Lite presets reduce RAM footprint by cutting round-robins, useful in dense arrangements. DI presets deliver raw, uncolored direct input recordings that pair effectively with external amp simulation and reamping workflows.

Bass Machina's interface emphasizes performance control through real-time articulation switching, advanced velocity mapping, and an integrated sequencer with auto-strummer functionality. The modular effects rack provides 27 DSP modules assignable across eight slots in any order, allowing comprehensive sound design without leaving the plugin.
The Kiesel's swamp ash and walnut/bloodwood construction yields a characteristically aggressive attack with defined low-mid presence and articulate high-frequency definition. This sonic profile suits metal, progressive, and contemporary bass-forward music better than vintage or warm-toned applications.
Among comparable bass instruments, Bass Machina distinguishes itself through its emphasis on pick-driven aggression and articulation control. It competes effectively with libraries like Session Bassist and Trilian for producers prioritizing authentic played bass over synthesis-based approaches.
