Soundiron's Alto Xylophone is a thoroughly sampled virtual instrument that captures three distinct wooden percussion voices with substantial depth. The primary alto xylophone presents the characteristic warm, plucky timbre expected from an elementary classroom staple, with 13 rosewood bars spanning C4 to A5 recorded across 10 round robins and up to 14 velocity layers per note. Two additional soprano xylophones, tuned an octave higher, provide textural variety: one delivers rounded, playful articulation while the second offers a crisp, cutting response. All sources were recorded using felt mallets and supplemented with sampled glisses and percussive knocks, capturing both traditional and extended playing techniques.

The sound design architecture extends well beyond sample playback. The engine incorporates an adaptable LFO system with shape selection, tempo-syncing, and modulation routing to assignable parameters including velocity, mod-wheel, and key position. A 12-filter selection offers standard low-pass and high-pass processing alongside specialized FX filters, while the customizable arpeggiator provides directional control, swing, and randomization options. The modular effects rack permits stacking up to 18 different DSP modules across 10 slots in user-defined order, enabling signal chain flexibility uncommon in percussion libraries.

The inclusion of 20 ambient soundscapes and 20 FX presets suggests Soundiron anticipated both straightforward acoustic usage and experimental sound design applications. A key and scale lock system facilitates melodic composition and live performance constraints.
