About this plugin
Lyrical Vocal Phrases represents a significant departure from conventional vocal sample instruments by prioritizing performance-based phrasing over note-by-note synthesis. Rather than assembling vocals from isolated phonemes or sustained tones, this Kontakt-based tool maps complete vocal phrases to individual keys, allowing composers to build arrangements through expressive, pre-recorded performances by vocalist Conny Kollet. This architectural choice sidesteps the mechanical quality that often plagues sampled vocal instruments, preserving the natural inflection and emotional weight of live singing.
The instrument ships with six language variants spanning fantasy, ethnic, medieval, and contemporary vocal styles, each crafted with attention to linguistic authenticity. Kollet's ability to construct believable constructed languages while maintaining tonal consistency across phrases provides composers with vocabularies that sound neither purely abstract nor linguistically anchored to a single culture. This flexibility proves especially valuable in film scoring and game audio, where thematic vocal elements require both specificity and universality.

The interface mirrors Sonuscore's earlier Lyrical Cello Phrases design, offering immediate accessibility alongside deeper sound design capabilities. Users can shape dynamics, articulation, and tone without confronting excessive parameter menus. Kontakt's modulation matrix remains available for those seeking advanced control, though the instrument functions effectively with minimal tweaking.
Best suited for composers working in orchestral, fantasy, and cinematic contexts, Lyrical Vocal Phrases fills a specific but important gap - it delivers human vocal texture without requiring vocal editing expertise or struggling with the uncanny valley that often characterizes synthesized voices. Requires the full Kontakt version, not the free player.
