About this plugin
Emma Legato Upgrade represents a meaningful evolution for Aria Vocalscapes owners, introducing authentic legato sampling to Sonora Cinematic's vocal library. Unlike crossfade or pitch-shift legato approximations, this implementation captures actual transitional samples between every note combination across the soprano range, resulting in remarkably natural vocal portamento and connection between pitches.
The library contains three articulations - Humming, Poco Vibrato, and Aahs - each with independent legato transitions. The central innovation is the SPEED parameter, which controls transition timing either manually or via AUTO mode. The AUTO function intelligently scales transition speed based on interval distance, automatically generating faster connections for stepwise motion and slower, more expressive transitions across larger leaps. This adaptive behavior reduces the mechanical quality that plagues many legato implementations and suits both deliberate melodic writing and real-time performance.

Vocalist Emma May Price, a classically-trained soprano, provides the source material. Her tonal character is pure and centered, suitable for cinematic contexts without excessive vibrato coloration. The inclusion of cinematic reverb options and snapshot presets facilitates quick textural adjustments without external processing.
Emma Legato functions best for composers requiring realistic vocal phrasing without the complexity of full sample library navigation. It's particularly suited for ambient scoring, underscore work, and productions where vocal melody carries emotional weight. The legato engine handles both piano roll programming and keyboard performance effectively, though the vocal range and single-vocalist limitation restrict its application in more heterogeneous ensemble contexts. For upgrading Aria Vocalscapes owners, the addition justifies the cost through significant playability improvements.
