About this plugin
The Oxford Limiter is a transparent peak limiter designed to maximize loudness while maintaining mix integrity. Built on Sonnox's established mastering tools heritage, it combines precise limiting control with a dedicated loudness enhancement section that distinguishes it from conventional brick-wall limiters.
The core limiting engine offers adjustable attack, release, and variable soft-knee parameters, allowing engineers to shape how aggressively the plugin responds to transients. The Recon meter displays actual signal levels rather than sampled readings, providing accurate feedback during aggressive limiting scenarios. This technical precision matters when pushing mixes to competitive loudness standards without introducing audible artifacts or pumping.

The Enhance section warrants particular attention. Rather than simple EQ or multiband compression, it applies perceptual loudness techniques that increase perceived volume independent of the limiter's peak control. This dual approach addresses a fundamental problem in mastering: the tension between hitting loudness targets and preserving dynamic character. The enhancement works across the frequency spectrum, maintaining clarity in highs while supporting low-end weight.
The plugin suits mastering engineers working across streaming, broadcast, and club-oriented content where loudness expectations vary. It's equally valuable for mix engineers applying protection during final mix sessions or tracking. The combination of transparent limiting with intelligent enhancement tools makes it effective on full mixes and individual sources.
Among limiter options at its price point, the Oxford Limiter's emphasis on transparent peak control paired with legitimate loudness tools separates it from simpler limiters or heavier multiband processors. It represents a purposeful middle ground for professionals prioritizing both technical precision and sonic character.
