About this plugin
Solid State Logic's emulation of the 4000E console represents the company's most comprehensive channel strip recreation to date, modeled by the original manufacturer with component-level circuit accuracy. The 4K E captures the sonic DNA of an instrument that defined professional recording from the early 1980s through the 1990s - a period when the 4000E became nearly synonymous with commercial music production.
The plugin's architecture centers on three distinct EQ colorations: Brown, Black, and the rare passive Orange flavors, each reflecting different manufacturing periods of the original console. The mic preamp employs detailed modeling of the Jensen JT-115K-E transformer, with adjustable saturation that introduces harmonic character without coloration. The dynamics section implements Revision 4 circuitry with soft-knee compression and logarithmic release characteristics, alongside DBX 202 Gold Can VCA fader saturation that adds subtle aggression to transients.

What distinguishes the 4K E from competing emulations is its authenticity in recreating not just the sound but the operational workflow of the original hardware. The inclusion of compressor mix control and advanced makeup gain adjustment allows nuanced gain staging that experienced engineers will recognize. HQ oversampling modes address digital artifacts at high frequencies, essential for transparent processing on modern recordings.
The 4K E suits mixing engineers working across genres who value sonic pedigree and need cohesive channel processing. Its tight integration with SSL's hardware controllers elevates its utility in professional studio environments. For those seeking the definitive SSL character without maintaining rare analog hardware, this emulation delivers convincing authenticity backed by the manufacturer's engineering expertise.
