About this plugin
Wasted Space is Softube's take on extreme lo-fi reverb, designed to deliver the aliasing artifacts and digital degradation that have become essential textures in contemporary electronic and pop production. Rather than emulating vintage hardware reverbs, the plugin embraces intentional bit reduction and sample rate destruction as its primary sonic tool.
The core appeal lies in its directness. The variable sample rate control lets you dial in precisely how much digital grit enters your signal, while three selectable filter slopes ( - 12, 24, and 48 dB/octave) determine how aggressively the aliasing artifacts manifest. Disabling the filter entirely yields maximum distortion; engaging the 48 dB option smooths the character considerably. A high-pass filter specifically targets low-frequency buildup, letting you preserve definition while keeping the degraded character where it matters most.

The plugin works equally well as a track insert for pushing individual elements forward with character, or on a bus to unify a mix in lo-fi texture. The retro-futuristic interface is intuitive enough for quick tweaks during a session, though the feature set remains focused - this isn't a reverb with endless parameters.
Wasted Space occupies a specific niche. It's not for engineers seeking transparent or realistic reverb spaces; it's for producers and sound designers who want instant, musically useful digital decay with intentional artifacts. Softube's long track record with tone-focused tools suggests the underlying sound quality remains high despite the deliberate degradation. For anyone working in genres where lo-fi character is structural rather than incidental, this plugin delivers efficiency and sonic authenticity.
