About this plugin
The Empirical Labs Complete Collection 2 represents a comprehensive toolkit for engineers seeking the distinctive saturated character that defined Dave Derr's mastering work at Empirical Labs. This upgrade bundles four complementary processors designed to inject controlled harmonic coloration throughout a mix without sacrificing clarity or introducing digital artifacts.
Professor Punch-Knuckles forms the collection's foundation, offering three saturation voicings adapted from the Distressor's sonic palette. It excels on drums and vocals where you need harmonic thickness without loss of definition. The accompanying tone shaping filters provide useful spectral manipulation, making it equally effective as a surgical saturation tool or aggressive character processor.

LilfrEQ diverges from conventional EQ design, prioritizing musicality over surgical precision. Its warm, punchy character makes it ideal for tracking and mixing applications where you want tonal shaping to feel organic rather than clinical. Mike-E Comp delivers compression with the analogue compression artifacts ELI is known for - density without pumping or artifacts that feel disconnected from modern production standards.
Trak Pak for Console 1 integrates these tools into Softube's hardware control ecosystem for tactile mixing workflows.
This collection appeals primarily to mix engineers working in rock, hip-hop, and alternative genres where controlled saturation and character processing define contemporary aesthetics. While not a surgical toolkit for transparent processing, it excels where sonic personality and harmonic richness matter more than pristine fidelity. The upgrade pricing makes it accessible for existing Punch-Knuckles users seeking expanded creative options.
