About this plugin
The Complete Collection 2 represents a straightforward path for Lil FrEQ owners to access Empirical Labs' full plugin ecosystem without duplicate purchases. This upgrade bundles four distinct processors developed in collaboration with Dave Derr, each addressing specific mixing challenges with the company's characteristic analog warmth and controlled aggression.
Beyond the Lil FrEQ you already own, you gain Professor Punch-Knuckles, a saturation plugin offering three distinct distortion flavors rooted in the Distressor's sonic DNA. It excels at adding perceived weight to drums and vocals without sacrificing clarity, scaling from subtle harmonic enhancement to forceful character shaping. The Mike-E Comp brings Empirical Labs' compression philosophy to individual tracks, while Trak Pak for Console 1 extends the collection's workflow integration for users of Softube's hardware controller ecosystem.

What distinguishes these tools is their refusal to sound "clean" in the modern mastering plugin sense. Instead, they emphasize musicality through controlled coloration - the sonic footprint of quality analog gear without clinical precision. The EQ and compression share a particular philosophy around mid-range presence and transient handling that works especially well on rock, hip-hop, and contemporary pop where gear character matters as much as surgical control.
For mixing engineers already committed to Lil FrEQ's particular character, this upgrade fills genuine gaps in a cohesive signal chain. The collection works best in experienced hands that understand when to embrace color rather than neutrality.
