About this plugin
The Empirical Labs Complete Collection 2 represents a streamlined approach to Dave Derr's signature sound design philosophy: aggressive saturation and compression that remains musically transparent across the frequency spectrum. This upgrade bundles four complementary processors - Professor Punch-Knuckles, LilfrEQ, Mike-E Comp, and Trak Pak for Console 1 - into a cohesive toolkit specifically calibrated for modern mixing workflows.
Professor Punch-Knuckles delivers the distortion character engineers recognize from hardware Distressors, offering three saturation flavors that range from subtle warmth to forceful harmonic enrichment. LilfrEQ distinguishes itself through its unconventional approach to tone shaping, prioritizing musicality over surgical precision. Mike-E Comp handles dynamic control with the colored character that defines Empirical Labs' philosophy - compression that shapes tone rather than simply controlling dynamics. The Console 1 integration adds tactile control for engineers accustomed to hardware-assisted mixing.

This collection appeals primarily to mix engineers working in rock, alternative, and hip-hop contexts where deliberate coloration enhances rather than distracts. The plugins avoid the clinical sterility of modern digital processing, instead emphasizing the harmonic saturation and subtle distortion that characterizes vintage analogue gear. Existing Complete Collection owners will find the upgrade path cost-effective compared to purchasing individual plugins separately, though the sonic character remains consistent with Empirical Labs' established house sound rather than introducing novel processing approaches.
